During the Stamp Act Crisis, Gage, Commander-in-Chief of British Forces in North America, witnessed violent confrontations resulting from Parliament's unpopular duty. He writes, "Your old friends here are grown very boisterous and mutinous. I wish the Parliament may cool them, & bring them to their senses."
